December 1, 2017 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Join us for Sounds of the Driftless, a special after hours event at Driftless Market. The evening will be full of music and spoken lyrical beauty, each of the three acts exploring this unique area of the country we call home.

Curt Meine, featured guest and co-editor of the The Driftless Reader, will read aloud from this newly published, acclaimed anthology. The Driftless Reader collects original source material from early travelers to the Driftless Region. Meine will be around afterwards to sign copies, available through Driftless Market. Check out the The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s stunning review to learn more.

John Peterson, assistant professor of biology at UW-Platteville, isn’t just your average professor. He’ll bring his smooth voice and favorite stringed instrument to the middle act of the evening. His folksy, original music can be found at http://johnpeterson.bandcamp.com/

Evan Larson, an associate professor of geography at UW-Platteville, will open the evening by reading a selection inspired by his work and passion for local nature. You can read his recent article, What is Wildness, in the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine

This is a free event, open to ages 12+. Driftless will provide hors d'oeuvres and sparkling non-alcoholic drinks. For those interested in continuing socializing after the event, folks can head over to the new 2nd & Main Coffeehouse and Pub just down the street.

Sounds of the Driftless is from 7-9pm, on Friday, December 1st. Don’t be late! You’ll want to make sure you take your seat before the performance begins.

November is Farm to Table Month at Driftless Market! Come meet Annie, from Equal Exchange, and taste test a variety of organic, Fair Trade chocolates.

November 4, 2017 - 10:00am to 12:00pm

Come stop by Driftless Market and meet Sandra Frye, author of the memoir African Dreams.*

Following a life-long dream to teach and serve others, twenty-three-year-old Sandra Frye served alongside her husband in the Peace Corps in Malawi, East Africa in 1969. They accepted what their Peace Corps director referred to as "the hard luck post," being the only white teachers in a small secondary school on remote Likoma Island. Sandy never let go of her desire to help others, despite battling loneliness, hunger, and lots of snakes. Relying on her passion for teaching and trips off the island to save her, Sandy discovered salvation in the friendship and love of two small Malawian boys.

Sandra's unique and inspiring travel memoir chronicles her time spent nurturing and learning from Goodwin and Hastings. From the first page, you'll be drawn to her story about love, loss, and redemption. The unexpected kinship between people of vastly different ages and cultures lies at the heart of this journey, offering hope that the search for peace is not in vain.
