Driftless Market Presents: How is it Made? Lampwork Art Glass Beads
Saturday, March 2nd from 10am - 3pm
Join the Driftless Market in welcoming Cathie Roberts, of Farm Girl Studio, for a demonstration of her beautiful lampwork art glass bead making technique, and opportunity to hear about how she uses these one of a kind beads in her unique and creative jewelry designs.
Cathie will be making glass lampwork beads on a hot head torch. Beads are made on a metal rod called a mandrel, it is coated with a clay like substance that keeps the glass from sticking to the mandrel. They are then annealed in a kiln for many hours to insure they cool slowly and thoroughly. This makes them stronger and prevents cracking. Cathie lives on a small farm in Scales Mound Illinois. She wanted a simpler way of life after working in corporate America and living in the burbs. Stained Glass was her first artistic endeavor in glass but Lampwork beads are now her passion. Each one is it's own little canvas. Soap, Jewelry, working with fibers and up-cycling from found materials are all ways she keeps busy. Cathie is an Artistic Pioneer Woman - Creating her way through life.

Join Driftless for a spoken word poetry reading with Hannah Adams.
Hannah performs spoken word poetry, writting everything that she preforms. Originally from Platteville, Hannah lived for a year "on her feet" (aka homeless) by choice and working on local farms to feed herself and have a place to sleep. She writes about her travels as well as her family. She moved back to SW WI because she realized that her family was the strongest community she could be a part of. Now she performs in order to sponser her tiny house project. A tiny house is sort of like a moble home that fits on a trailer so she can travel but still go "home" to her bed each night.
Hannah has an incredible energy that is felt by everyone around her.
